A few major issues

Today I would like to discuss a few things. Firstly, the lack of coverage of the uprising in Turkey, where protesters are being blatantly and violent abused by the regime there: BBC report

It is shocking that this isn't all over the news, like the Arab Spring Rising was a few years ago, and Syria continues to be. This rising has now breached Europe and the totalitaran state that Turkey has become. They very recently hurried through laws allowing for forgein oil exploration within their borders to appease the likes of the US and now it seems that they can do as they please!! My sympathy goes to the people of Turkey.

As it is Wednesday, it is Prime Minister Questions, although frankly I don't know why its called that because he 'answers' every question with one of his own, unskillfully avoiding the arguments. I really do disair at the behaviour of these childish Etonians. It galls me that these boys are our 'leaders'. Cameron still seems oblivious to the fact that it takes years of training for a doctor and a nurse and takes all the credit for the increase in the numbers of both - when this was cleary implemented by the last govt.

As to Scotland, I am coming to the realisation that we really are better off away from the UK. England (in the majority) seems to want to leave the EU - not realising how less well off they will be. Most of our exports go to the EU and that would fall dramatically if we were no longer a part of the community. Given the results of the last election (where almost no one in Scotland voted Conservative (1 seat) but we got the Tory govt anyway)it is clear that regardless of how Scotland votes, it will be England's decision (they have 10 x the population we have).

Add to that the fact that the Tories are doing everything they possibly can to ruin and sell off the NHS, plus they want to put £150 million into a new trident project, I think it is necessary for the people of Scotland to vote YES in 2014. No matter what we vote as a nation in the UK elections and referndums, we are voiceless in the sheer mass that is south of the border and are dragged along however they please. I do not think this is a democratic society and I do not want it any more. I have many dear friends south of the border and I love them a great deal. I simply do not want to be dictated to by Westminster any longer, not when it is doing such a horrific job!

I do not think money will be an issue - we have so many resources and I think, if the Crown etc wish to maintain the oil drilling, we will manage to keep the £. We will be able to maintain our own NHS far better than Westminster ever could and we will remain in Europe, which is essential in the 21st century. I think the naesayers are scared, and that's their right but I do not want to be connected to a country that votes against everything we vote for. That is not democracy, it is autocracy!

Scotland's potential oil boom

It was announced yesterday that Scotland could far a potential oil boom that will bring in billions from tax revenues. It is estimated that as much as £12 billion by 2018 could be within reach for taxes on gas and oil from Scotlands oil fields. Of course, this is only if Scotland gains independence in 2014, otherwise it will go into the Crown's pocket and I very much doubt that Scotland will see any of the profits.

Could Salmond be losing the Yes Vote

Alex Salmond, in his bid to win the vote for independence could be going too far with new policies that alienate the NHS and legal systems alike, and all those who support both systems.

People who were intending to vote yes at the 2014 referendum are now not sure and it is likely that many who were sitting on the fence have now moved to the no side, as new policies sweep through both the legal and medical systems.

The NHS is under fire, especially in Ayrshire and Arran with new proposals making 'care' less and less likely and forcing nurses to choose between helping the sick or doing paperwork. The legal system is having such a shuffle that many hundreds of lawyers and their staff face losing their jobs. Legal Aid is also changing to the point where only those who can pay it back will be allowed it - a system that means only the rich get fair representation.

This is not how you encourage people to vote yes for independence. If Salmond wishes to win the referendum he needs to stop what he is doing and take a long hard look at these terrible policies his party are putting in place.

A few things political

Firstly, congratulations President Obama - you are an amazing man who deserves to be re-elected :D

I meant to write this last week but was away. On last week's Question Time on BBC 1 and idiot in the audience wanted to know why, rather than using wind farming, we don't use nuclear fuels for renewable energy.

Sometimes the stupidity of people astounds me. Wind farms do not leave waste that we, as yet, cannot safely destroy. In fact, we have a job storing it safely and this is why there are not more nuclear power plants all over the place. I would ask this imbecile whether he would be happy to have one in his back garden. i know the answer would be no - the the politicians who make these idiotic suggestions would also answer no this this question. No, they would want these power stations somewhere like, oh I don't know - SCOTLAND, WALES< N ENGLAND, anywhere they think is out of the way. These people anger me on so many levels. They talk about wind farms being aesthetically unpleasing - who cares, they work and in a few years they will bring energy prices down. Like all new things, they need time to iron out the wrinkles, make sure they are working to their optimum. In the case of the nuclear power sugestion - we have been dealing with the same problesm for 40 years. A friend of mine is a nuclear engineer. She inspects power stations to make sure they are storing waste and other byproducts properly. She once told me that if the public knew what she saw they'd be terrified. THAT is why we do not want more nuclear power stations. The other thing I want to mention is this guff about ONE NATION that Labour and their ilk keep spouting. Nobody feels that we are one nation and how dare they try to make us so. Scotland is Scotland, N Ireland is N Ireland, Wales is Wales and England is England. We are all proud to be part of our respective nations and should not be made to feel like we are being imalgumated into this one nation nonsense. Leave the One Nation ideas to the Americans - they said it first. The Speaker of the Scottish Parliament today acidentally called Ruth Davis, Leader of the Scottish Conservatives Ruth Lamont (mixing her name with Labour's Joanne Lamont's). This was, in so many ways, very apt as the two parties are practically walking together hand in hand in their opposition to SNP. The thing that angers me about this is the sheer betrayal these 2 parties are offering to the people of Scotland. I do feel that independence is on the way. I also feel taht we will need parties after this happens. I for one will not vote SNP again after we gain this, as I do not agree with a lot of their policies. We will need parties we can feel secure in voting for (Personally, I don't feel anyone should ever vote Conservative but that's a personal opinion and I feel we are all entitled to vote for whomever we wish). Labour, in their denial of wanting Scotland to be independent, offer no alternative to this post 2014. Liberal Democrats also offer up this same betrayal. I find that hard to swollow as I was a LibDem voter until they declared they were against the referendum. The UK government got in on a 38% vote - that's no where near half the UK vote and yet they got in. none of these votes came from Scotland, which shows how little our voice is heard in Westminster. This is the main reason we need to have independence, so that we can choose out government and govern ourselves. Independence for Scotland

At the moment I am angry at the current political situation in Scotland. We have Tories in Westminster telling us when we should hold a referendum on the future of this country and lying blatantly about the state of business in Scotland – stating that businesses are uncertain re the future because of the possibility of independence and yet we know for a fact that since the SNP obtained a majority, businesses have been knocking at our doors wanting in.

This is blatant scaremongering and it should not be allowed in a genuine debate.
I am also disgusted that the only thing Labour and Conservatives have ever agreed on is that we should stay in the union! Fair enough, the Conservatives (and indeed the near extinct Liberals) should be worried, they have how many seats in the Scottish Parliament? But Labour, to me, are simply betraying their constituencies by backing the union, backing a Tory government and clearly not supporting Scotland. I thought Johann Lamont would be smarter and brighter than that.
2 points for England here:
• Given the disdain among the people of Scotland for the Tories, and latterly the Lib Dems, the loss of six million votes against their parties in a British general election would only serve to increase their majority and chances of holding onto power for longer in Westminster.
• How do the people of England feel about Scottish MP’s voting on English/Welsh issues when English and Welsh MP’s do not get to vote on Scottish issues? This is a complete imbalance and not fair on English and Welsh citizens.
I find it laughable when people say that Scotland is not ready for independence, given that we have one of the best business records at present in the UK. We have international companies investing in us such as Amazon and Nissan, just to name a couple.

Another thing that really annoys me is that some people put the SNP on a par with the hideous BNP. This could not be further from the truth. The SNP are not in any way shape or form an exclusionary party. There are Asian and English members/MP’s who contribute greatly to the party, but this is never mentioned in the press. The SNP stands for Scottish National Party, NOT Scottish Nationalists Party. There is a huge difference. This is not an anti-English party either, as many people believe, it is simply pro Scotland.
