Elvis passed away 35 years ago on the 16th of August 1977. Millions mourned his death. This was, after all, the death of a legend. He has been immortalised as the King of Rock and Roll.
This week is Elvis week – a week commemorating his passing. Thousands flock every year to Graceland, his home and burial ground, to be near to him and to one another, consoling each other and remembering with fondness how he changed their lives.
The extraordinary thing about this is that many of those attending are young people who were not alive when he was. The parent’s love of the ‘King’ has been passed to the child, or they came to this adoration themselves through love of his music and or films. The charismatic soul that was Presley continues to leave his mark in the modern world.
I will not write a biography here, more informed people have already done so. I offer this link to his wiki page, and the request to think about why he is still so beloved by adoring fans. How has his legacy lasted beyond all others?
